Design

Each piece of furniture from C & J Woodworks is designed to fit our client’s requirements. Size, proportion, function, and materials are all determined as part of initial design discussions. Once we have gathered criteria from our clients, we begin to develop a concept for the commissioned piece through sketches, drawings, and finish materials that are reviewed with and approved by our client.

In order to complete a successful design that fits our client’s needs, we develop drawings that describe the piece for construction purposes, which are used in the shop to build the actual piece of furniture. Our attention to detail during the design process ensures that our clients will prize their furniture for generations.

Much of the wood used by C & J Woodworks is sourced in local, private oak and walnut forests found close to our studio. Conrad personally slects the the trees which are milled locally to our specifications.

When our clients desire a wood other than oak or walnu we work with a local lumber mill to hand select the material that will go into the final product. We also work with local blacksmith, David Edwards of Persimmon Forge, to develop unique pieces of hardware when our clients or designs demand it.
